Conference Conclusions

Organized by The Library of „Lucian Blaga” University of Sibiu, in partnership with University Library of Bayreuth, Evanghelische Akademie Siebenburgen – Land Kärnten and The  Library of “1 decembrie” University, Alba-Iulia,
the 6th Information Science and Information Literacy Conference took place between 21-23 April, 2015.

The papers followed the general theme of the conference „The Future of the Libraries in Digital Age”, and  the participants highlighted new trends in the following fields:
 - creating, managing and interconnecting data in Web 3.0;
 - access to documentation and publishing academic resources;
 - Romania's bilateral relations - tools used in the organization of knowledge;
 - digitization between necessity and challenge;
 - ethical dilemmas raised by communication in the new digital age;
 - the social role of public libraries in the community;
 - identifying and correlating concepts in archaic Romanian old books and manuscripts;
 - color theory in Isaac Newton’s "Optics" , 1740;
 - simulated work scenarios with interactive multimedia elements;
 - knowledge and innovation triangle made up of universities, research institutes and companies;
 - educational potential of digital archives - involving students in knowledge of  "different" history, illustrated by Europeana 1914-1918 and 1989 campaigns;
 - communication as cultural phenomenon;
 - social media and Romanian libraries;
 - information coding algorithms to increase the quality of the visual content;
 - increased accuracy of answers in a search using Naive Bayes virtual;
 - classification assessment methods in more than two classes and the association between a class and a cluster;
 - european project valorisation of cultural plurality: ULBS Library in Europeana Cloud;
- Romanian’s Telegraph digital version;
- information literacy activities in  Cibinium Documentation and Information Centre Sibiu;
- school as a social space and actor in social media - the example of Benjamin Franklin High School Club "Mikes Kelemen" Sfântu Gheorghe;
- consideration of the status of the librarian in the Romanian Counties, in the Middle Ages.
Also, the participants were part of a workshop, „Romanian libraries and social media: Uses and gratifications”, coordinated by conf.dr. Ioana Narcisa CREŢU, from The Faculty of Social and Human Sciences - "Lucian Blaga" University of Sibiu.

The second day was dedicated to a documentary trip to Alba Iulia. The participants visited The Library of “1 decembrie” University, The National Museum of Unification, The National Center for Restoration and Conservation of Old Books.
Also, the trip included a visit to Batthyaneum Library, a branch of the National Library of Romania, established in 1798. On the way to Sibiu, a short stop was made at Evangelical Church from Sebeş.
In the last day of the conference conclusions were drawn, and because the 23rd of April was also the World Book Day or World Book and Copyright Day, an event organized by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), to promote reading, publishing and copyright, congratulation messages were read from the Romanian Library Association.
